Meet the artist: Kristina Rosa Ruell
Is a Belgian illustrator, living in Leuven with four feisty daughters, one sweet son three fluffy cats and a very stubborn Corgi. She studied illustration at Sint Lucas Antwerp. In 1998 her work was selected for the ‘Figures Futurs’ exhibition in Montreuil (Paris, France). From then on she worked as a freelance illustrator for several magazines and newspapers.
In 2005 she illustrated her first picture book “Waar ik was toen ik nog niet geboren was”, written by Jaak Dreesen. And in 2018 “Amira, de prinses komt thuis”, written by Bart Van Nuffelen and was awarded with a “White Raven”.
Many picture books would follow in which she likes to experiment with different techniques (watercolor, collage, pencil, lino) and digital art.
She is inspired by nature, animals, city life, vintage design, Edward Hopper and Rik Wouters. She puts her heart and soul, lots of color, humor into every illustration.
Writing and illustrating her own stories and books is the next adventure.
